Resumen
Quilts often have a visual balance as well as produce pleasing effects. Since quilts may be considered as cultural artifacts as well as artistic and mathematical manifestations and expressions of the daily life of slaves, who were part of a particular cultural group. The purpose of this article is to explore the symmetrical patterns found in a specific kind of quilts, symmetrical freedom quilts, and to explore the connections between mathematics, ethnomathematics, and the tactile craft and art of quilting of this resilient group of people.
