Resumen
La Tercera Evaluación Nacional del Progreso en Educación Matemática (Matthews, et al., 1984) realizada en 1982 confirmó el hecho que los estudiantes hispánicos en Estados Unidos continúan obteniendo calificaciones por debajo del nivel nacional logrado en matemáticas. Se han observado ciertos progresos entre la segunda y la tercera evaluación para los hispánicos. Los mayores progresos aparecen en ejercicios que evalúan los niveles más elementales de conocimiento (retención de información y destreza matemática) en vez de en los niveles más avanzados (comprensión y aplicación).
