A general scheme for a heterogeneous manifold of transitions

Descripción
A general praxeological scheme is applied to express relations between praxeological blocks depending on the goal of the analysis and the specific institutional setting within which a mathematical praxeology is considered. Besides its heuristic function, the scheme provides a framework for context dependent categorizations of praxeologies. The poster exemplarily illustrates the application of the scheme to two different contexts: measures supporting students in their first year of study; the use of mathematics in engineering sciences.

About the “Mixture” of discourses in the use of mathematics in signal theory

Descripción
An important issue for research in university mathematics education is the use of mathematics in engineering. Here we focus on praxeologies in a course on system and signal theory (SST), which represents a typical module in electrical engineering studies in the third or fourth semester. In such courses, mathematics already studied in introductory mathematics courses will be applied, but also enriched by the introduction and development of new practices, in particular the so-called Dirac-impulse. We claim that the introduction and justification of the Dirac-impulse in SST is a convenient case where basic facets of epistemological relations between mathematics and engineering sciences might be illustrated and shown to be important for a detailed description and analysis of logos blocks of praxeologies. The background for our considerations regarding logos blocks of praxeologies that concern the introduction of the Dirac-impulse is given by philosophical studies by Wahsner and Borzeszkowski (1992, 2012) and a few illuminating remarks by Dirac.

Socio-political aspects of personal experiences in university teacher education programmes

Descripción
This paper presents and applies the subject-scientific approach to learning, which integrates a socio-political dimension to learning on a theoretical level and provides analytical categories for research. An ongoing qualitative study about learning experiences of pre-service mathematics teachers throughout their university studies is presented. The analytic categories are exemplified by the case of the student Helena. She is splitting her learning in various institutional contexts, which realize different functions in her learning trajectory that could be interpreted in their socio-political dimension within the subject-scientific approach.

Conceptualizing societal aspects of mathematics in signal analysis

Descripción
This paper focuses on different possibilities for conceptualizing didactically relevant aspects of advanced mathematical subject matter in such a way that fits with subject scientific categories considering mathematically learning as a societal mediated process according to Holzkamp (1993). This concern requires studying subject matter, teaching and “university” not as conditions that cause reactions but as meanings in the sense of generalized, societal reified action possibilities. We consider the following three theoretical lenses: an epistemological-philosophical analysis, Anthropological theory of didactics and elements of Bernstein’s theory. After rather short characterizations of these approaches we illustrate their application to the introduction of the delta distribution in a signal analysis text book.
