Introducción temprana al pensamiento algebraico: abordaje basado en la geometría

Este trabajo presenta un estudio sobre la transición de la aritmética al álgebra, basado en un modelo de enseñanza que incorpora fuentes de significados relacionados con el razonamiento proporcional numérico y geométrico, aspectos de la variación proporcional y procesos de generalización. En dicho modelo se utiliza el ambiente Logo, que hace explícita la vinculación entre dominios matemáticos. El estudio piloto que aquí se presenta forma parte de una investigación más extensa y se realiza con dos niños de 10-11 años de edad de una escuela primaria privada; incluye la aplicación de un cuestionario inicial, trabajo experimental con parejas de niños en ambiente Logo y un cuestionario final. El análisis de los resultados muestra que los niños transitan de un pensamiento de tipo aditivo a uno de tipo multiplicativo con dificultades para percibir la diferencia entre secuencias aritméticas y geométricas, así como para expresar relaciones funcionales. Sin embargo, se observaron logros al final del trabajo experimental en cuanto a la percepción de patrones generales y de su expresión en lenguaje natural o en lenguaje de programación Logo; este último, basado principalmente en el trabajo de los niños con tablas numéricas de variación.
